UPAVA nominated for Brimbank Awards
The works for the Ugandan Community in Victoria have not gone unnoticed and have, instead, been nominated for two “We Are the Brimbank Awards”. The award winners were announced at an Exquisite Dinner at Lakeside Banquet and Conference Hall on May 23, 202???.
Association President Norman Katende and Executive and Sports Committee member Robert Ssemakula represented the association at the awards.
The association’s efforts in extending its services to other communities and also catering for diverse groups as well as its encompassing programme saw them being among the four nominated for the Brimbank Community Engagement of the Year Award. Duke Street Community House, which has been in existence for 50 years in service.
The Uganda Independence Day Gala held last year also got a nomination as the Brimbank event for the year, among three other events with The Vietnamese Families with special needs carrying the day.
“Recognition is quite important. We have volunteers putting in hundreds of hours to ensure that such events go on and if we are nominated, that means that all their efforts are being recognised and we appreciate their efforts,” said Association President Norman Katende, after the awards dinner.
