UPAVA holds its first Health and Wellbeing Luncheon

July 6, 2024 upava Comments Off on UPAVA holds its first Health and Wellbeing Luncheon

The UPAVA held its first Health and Wellbeing session that attracted over 55 adults across 14 countries speaking about Health and wellbeing. The event, facilitated by FECCA, took place on May 25, 2024, at Highlands Hotel, Craigieburn.

Our own Janipher Nassali led the day by speaking about menstrual health and hygiene. The founder of  Blossom Girls brought to life the challenge that parents, mostly single fathers face when their teens and preteens approach the period and how to break the ice and talk to them. She reminded parents that if they do not take the initiative, the daughters might get information from another source.

Dr Claire Gordon, a Fellow in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology, who also works as an Infectious Diseases Physician in the Department of Infectious Diseases and Immunology and a Medical Specialist in the Northeastern Public Health Unit, Austin Health spoke at length about flu and Covid, including strains and vaccinations.

Dr Akhtar Hussain reminded the participants of the advantages of staying healthy and working out, pulling out on his experience as a public health physician and Fellow of the Australasian Faculty of Public Health Medicine.

It was an interactive session where members networked, discussed and also shared experiences. Before calling for more engagements like this, that uplift the community’s well-being.
